JOINT MEETING of Task Force on MFCCH and COST IN REGGIO EMILIA

Theme of the meeting: "Redefining the concept of cultural competence"

Reggio Emilia, 14th 15th October 2010

The aim of the meeting is to discuss critically the changing notions of 'cultural competence' that have been used in different times and places. Should we be concerned with developing appropriate care for particular target groups, and if so, how should these be groups be defined (e.g. in terms of ethnicity, culture or migrant status)? Alternatively, should the aim be to develop approaches which are more sensitive to diversity in the population as a whole, and if so, which aspects of difference should be taken into account? We will consider the implications at the level of individuals, organisations and policies.
