Ciarrocchi Alessia
I graduated in Biological Science (1999) and Molecular and Industrial Biotechnology (2011) and obtained my PhD in Cellular Biology and Physiology (2004) at the University of Bologna. After a postdoctoral training at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre in New York, I moved back to Italy and started as an independent researcher at the AUSL-IRCCS Research Institution of Reggio Emilia where I strongly contributed to the development of Translational Research Laboratory and at the implementation of projects in the area of basic and translational research in oncology.
In 2015 I was appointed Head of the Translational Research Laboratory. Under my supervision the lab has grown significantly to become a multidisciplinary and integrated Unit that combines expertise in the field of molecular biology, functional genomics, biostatistics and bioinformatics and manage the most up to date omics techniques for the study of genome organization and function.
In 2020 I was appointed President of the E35 Foundation. As a molecular Biologist, my main interest lays in the dissection of molecular mechanisms leading to transformation and maintenance of neoplastic phenotypes in aggressive cancers. I strongly believe that understanding the pathogenic events driving tumors transformation will pave new avenues to prevent disease occurrence and to establish patients individualized risk assessment.
