Martina Bonacini

I graduated in Molecular Biology at the University of Parma in 2011. In 2016, I obtained PhD in Pathology and Molecular Biology at the University of Parma with a thesis entitled "Role of Clusterin in Prostate Cancer progression". Since 2016, I work at the Azienda Unità Sanitaria Locale-IRCCS of Reggio Emilia in the Laboratory of Clinical Immunology, Allergy and Advanced Biotechnologies.
Currently, my research activity regards the inflammation and autoimmune diseases, in particular on Giant Cell Arteritis, Takayasu Arteritis, Behçet disease and autoimmune uveitis. The major focuses of my research work are:

  • The identification of molecular biomarkers associated with disease activity in patients with Large Vessel Vasculitis (Giant Cell Arteritis, Takayasu Arteritis)
  • The study of the effects of drugs on immune cells in patients with Behçet disease
  • The analysis of intraocular cytokine profiles in relation to the response to immunosuppressive therapies in patients with non-infectious uveitis
  • The evaluation of effects of inflammation and chemotherapy drugs on the expression of immune checkpoints
