Veronica Buia

I graduated in Medical Biotechnology at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia in 2020. In 2020, I obtained a fellowship about the project “Endothelial, neutrophil, and complement perturbation linked to acute and chronic damage in COVID-19 pneumonitis coupled with machine learning approaches” at the Azienda Unità Sanitaria Locale-IRCCS of Reggio Emilia in the Laboratory of Clinical Immunology, Allergy and Advanced Biotechnologies. Since 2021, I am a PhD student in "Clinical and Experimental Medicine" of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia in the Laboratory of Clinical Immunology, Allergy and Advanced Biotechnologies.
My PhD project is focused on the study of the crosstalk between inflammation, autoimmunity and solid tumors. In particular, I investigate: the effects of inflammation and drugs on the expression of immune checkpoints in tumors; factors associated with increased cancer risk in patients with Dermatomyositis.
Other research activities concern the study of biomarkers and the characterization of patients with autoimmune diseases, in particular giant cell arteritis, ANCA-associated vasculitis and patients with COVID-19.
