Emanuele Vitale

I graduated in Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of Bologna in 2019, with a thesis focused on the functional characterization of the RUNX2-associated genomic elements in thyroid and breast cancer models. I joined the Laboratory of Translational Research of AUSL-IRCCS as an undergraduate student during the last year of my master’s degree course. I continued my career in the same laboratory first as a pre-doctoral fellow and then as a Ph.D. student of the Clinical and Experimental Medicine Ph.D. program at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. My research aims to clarify the molecular mechanism by which the transcription factor RUNX2 supports the progression of breast and thyroid cancers. In the last year of my Ph.D. course, I won the Guido Belucchi “Young Research Mobility Program” and the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia “Bando per il finanziamento di azioni di mobilità per giovani ricercatori”. Thanks to these fellowships, I spent 6 months at MitoCare, Center for Mitochondrial Imaging Research and Diagnostics (Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, PA, USA). During this period, I performed biochemistry and imaging experiments to explore the role of RUNX2 in the metabolic rewiring of cancer cells.
