Federica Torricelli
I graduated in Medical Biotechnologies at University of Modena and Reggio Emilia in 2010, taking part in a research project to characterize a mouse model of Facioscapulohumeral muscolar dystrophy. Since 2011 I am a researcher at Reggio Emilia Hospital. From 2011 to 2016 I worked in the laboratory of Molecular Biology, acquiring experience in DNA sequencing and focusing my activity on studying molecular markers of tumor prognosis and therapeutic response. In 2012 I attended a post graduate course (II level) in Molecular and Genetic Epidemiology at the University of Pavia and I acquired skills in statistical analysis. Since 2016, I work in the Laboratory of Translational Research at the AUSL-IRCCS of Reggio Emilia. My activity is focused on the application of Next Generation Sequencing approaches for the investigation of mutational and transcriptional profiles in different kinds of tumors. In 2017 I obtained a Ph.D. in Bioengineering and Bioinformatics at the University of Pavia, acquiring skills for the management of big data from genomic analysis. These high-throughput approaches are now considered a fundamental support to clinical research to shed light on genetic features and molecular mechanisms underlying aggressive behavior in cancer. Thus, they can provide tools for patient risk stratification and novel treatment approaches.
In particular, since 2020 in the context of 2 studies financed by Fondi per la valorizzazione della ricerca istituzionale (5x1000-2019, 5x1000-2023), I have been applying these innovative technologies to the study of malignant pleural Mesothelioma to characterize the mechanisms that drive the evolution and aggressiveness of this pathology and to identify new therapeutic strategies.
