Pier Cesare Capponi

Capponi Pier Cesare obtained his Bachelor's degree in Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technologies in 2009 from the University of Parma. Since 2011, he has been a part of the Radiopharmaceutical Chemistry Laboratory (RACHEL) at the AUSL-IRCCS of Reggio Emilia. Initially, he was involved in the production and quality assurance of radiopharmaceuticals for clinical use. Over the years, he has developed a solid background in pharmaceutical, chemical-analytical, and regulatory fields. He acquired skills in laboratory management according to Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards and worked on the implementation of experimental protocols for the synthesis and analysis of radiopharmaceuticals. His work has focused on the in-depth study of the chemical and nuclear properties of radiopharmaceuticals and radioisotopes, aiming to contribute to the understanding of crucial processes in nuclear medicine. His passion for the discipline and research led him to further his studies. He is attending the post-graduation course in Pharmacology and Clinical Toxicology at the University of Ferrara, gaining additional expertise in pharmacology, toxicology, radio-pharmacology, and consolidating his knowledge in radiochemistry.

For several years, he has been involved in preclinical research, contributing to numerous projects related to chemical and pharmacological aspects for the study of new molecules in nuclear medicine. He has worked on new synthetic approaches to radiolabeling, using innovative chelators and unconventional radionuclides, optimizing radiosynthetic processes, conducting radio-pharmacological assays on cell cultures, cell labeling, antibody and biomolecule labeling, and biodistribution assays on murine models. Recently, he has been studying potential probes for target-specific imaging of the tumor microenvironment, linked to the investigation of onco-metabolites present in tumors.
