The "UNAMANO " Project - English version

HOW WE HELP

The project UNAMANO was created to make it easier for individuals suffering from oncological illnesses to keep their jobs and return to work, so our services are intended for working-age adults with a cancer diagnosis.

Problems associated with returning to work after surviving cancer are common amongst those who are able to keep their jobs, making it difficult for these individuals to perform their professional duties.

These difficulties should, if patients so desire, be made known to the patients’ employers, so as to raise awareness within the work environment and facilitate the reintegration process.

The innovative aspect of this project is the fact that, for the first time, the perceived gap between the spheres of healthcare and of work is being bridged.

The patient is assisted throughout the work reintegration programme, with the support of a main project coordinator, the occupational therapist.

The occupational therapist is a healthcare professional operating in the fields of prevention and rehabilitation, whose objective is to help individuals suffering from any sort of illness to deal with the problems that may arise in their daily lives.

In this particular case, the occupational therapist is able to evaluate each individual case and design personalised work rehabilitation and reintegration programmes, and even, if patients so agree, visit their workplaces to assess possible problems and solutions.

This occupational therapist works in close contact with other types of professionals, so as to ensure that care is provided promptly and that the programme offered is as personally tailored as possible.

That is why a local social and healthcare network, which includes the Local Health Care Unit - IRCCS of Reggio Emilia, trade union organisations, social cooperatives, non-profit volunteer organisations, vocational training organisations and professional associations, as well as an accounting and business consultancy firm, has been created.

Practically speaking, this new service offers assistance in the form of information, of social and/or healthcare support to help deal with difficulties experienced in the workplace, advice about social security and care, and a counselling programme that includes professional training and information for those with incurred debt.

The programme at the heart of the service is a personalised one, tailored to meet the needs and goals of each individual patient. The support initiatives focus not only on overall physical and psychological recovery, but also on social reintegration and participation.

Specifically, the Project involves the participation and collaboration of:
