Dott. Davide Schiroli

Dott. Davide Schiroli, PhD, Post-doctoral fellow

Davide is a Post-Doc in BioMetLab, he has a degree in Biotechnology (2011) and a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (2014), both at the University of Parma.

During his PhD he discovered and characterize the function of a human brain enzyme.

After the PhD he left his first bio-love, enzymology, to move in Northern Ireland for a Post-Doc in vision research at the University of Ulster. There he grew his interest and expertise in this field exploiting cellular and animal models of eye surface diseases to study the genetic background and possible treatments for these pathologies.

After two years and a half spent abroad, he decided to move back to Italy and to the back of the eye, the retina. At the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia he was involved in a project that aimed to find a molecular chaperone to treat Retinitis Pigmentosa.

In the meantime, Davide still kept an eye in corneal research, collaborating with an ophthalmology group at the University of Parma, specialized in corneal endothelium, which dysfunction is the main cause of corneal transplantation.

In 2020, Davide arrived in our group of research bringing with him his expertise in biomedical sciences. His first and main aim here will be to compare different protocols of blood preparation for thalassemic patients, while he will also contribute to the other lines of research of the group.
