Logo Centro Disturbi del MovimentoThe Movement Disorders Center of the AUSL-IRCCS Reggio Emilia is dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of different movement disorders, including Parkinson’s disease, atypical parkinsonism, ataxias, tremor syndromes, dystonia, chorea and other movement disorders, including those of genetic and rare origin.
The Center is recognized by the Emilia-Romagna Region as a third-level referral center for Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders, and by Orphanet as a reference center for rare and genetic forms.
Patients can receive care through outpatient or inpatient admissions, or admission under the Day Hospital and Day-Service regimes, allowing for comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic assessments through dedicated protocols.
A multidisciplinary approach is central to patient care: patients and their families are supported by a team of specialized professionals. Treatments include both standard therapies and advanced approaches, such as:

  • Infusion therapies (subcutaneous foslevodopa–foscarbidopa, intraduodenal levodopa infusion, subcutaneous apomorphine)
  • Implantation and follow-up of deep brain stimulation (DBS) systems
  • EMG or ultrasound-guided Botulinum toxin injections
  • Use of medical cannabis for symptoms resistant to conventional therapies

The Center is also actively involved in national and international research collaborations, with the aim of continuously improving the quality of care and offering patients the most innovative therapeutic strategies.
