FIELD OF INTEREST

The present invention relates in general to systems for detecting ionizing radiation. In particular, the present invention relates to detection systems for monitoring and controlling the dose of radiation delivered to patients during IntraOperative Electron Radiation Therapy (IOERT).

DESCRIPTION

Detector of ionizing radiation comprising a plurality of scintillators made of plastic, wherein the scintillators are in the form of coplanar plates arranged according to an ordered 2D arrangement, each plate having a respective optical fibre joined to a perimeter edge portion of the plate for transporting luminous scintillation pulses to a photodetector. When used in IntraOperative Electron Radiation Therapy, the detector is associated with a shielding element.
